The following article, slightly edited, was taken from the web site of the FIRE CHIEF on Sep 1, 2005. Although the article was written by an American firefighter, the situation that is described in this piece is quite typical of what fire departments in Canada have or are experiencing in terms of problems with communication systems.

The FIRE CHIEF (http://firechief.com/) was established in 1956, and is an on-line magazine for leaders in the Fire Service in the United States. Articles by fire officers from across the country and overseas cover a wide variety of areas that are important to today's fire chief.
